Local shooters from Hay Branch travelled to the South Island of New Zealand on the 25th November to compete at the NZ Compak Championships over 4 days. Peter Jacka & Darren Macartney represented SSAA in the Open 5-Stand Team with fellow team members Brent Suprain, Brett Inch & Greg Allen. They competed against the New Zealand team for the Trans-Tasman McGowan Cup. NZ defeated the Aussie’s 109-101.
L-R Brent Suprain (Bateau Bay), Greg Allen (Griffith), Brett Inch (Temora), Peter Jacka & Darren Macartney (Hay).
Both Peter and Darren shot consistently over the 4 days, with some very good scoring rounds being achieved in trying conditions. The weather held off until last day of shooting, blustery freezing winds and sprinkle of rain made conditions really cold. Brent Suprain shot a perfect 25 round on the last day when weather conditions were terrible, well done Brent.
Other members of our party included Warren Brown from Griffith and Mikayla Macartney & Jan Jacka from Hay. Mikayla excelled in her first International shooting event, winning C Grade in the Enfield Trophy Shoot & 2nd in Juniors on Wed, 2nd in C Grade in the South Island Championships Thurs., and 2nd in C Grade at the NZ National Championships Fri & Sat. Mikayla shot consistently over the 4 days, shooting her personal best of 21, well done Mikayla. Jan Jacka was 2nd in Ladies for the Enfield Trophy, 3rd Ladies for the South Island, & 4th NZ National Championships.
Mikayla with fellow winner Brent Suprain who won B Grade at the NZ National Championships.
